Job Description:
Senior Director, Biomarker Development - Translational
Sciences
Location: Cambridge MA
We are a Cambridge-based VC-backed stealth biotech focused on
discovering and developing the next generation of precision
oncology small molecule medicines. We are advancing drug discovery
programs based on a platform that combines insights into cancer
biology, structural biophysics and innovative chemical biology to
identify and characterize novel drivers and druggable protein
domains. Our team is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic
scientist to lead the implementation of biomarker and diagnostic
strategies for our frontrunner franchises. As the founding member
of the Translational Sciences group, the candidate will influence
indication selection, early clinical development, and companion
diagnostic (CDx) regulatory path. This role will involve
significant interaction and collaboration across the R&D
organization as well as with external partners. The position offers
the opportunity to contribute to both drug discovery and clinical
projects in an innovative and fast-paced team environment with
tremendous growth opportunity.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as biomarker lead for preclinical and clinical stage
oncology programs by independently formulating strategies for the
discovery, development, and implementation of biomarkers for
ultimate use in clinical settings
- Develop and direct scientifically accurate assays to translate
preclinical data into meaningful clinical biomarkers for advancing
molecular glue candidates
- Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., target biology,
translational research, nonclinical and clinical development) to
ensure successful operational execution of biomarker plans
- Establish outsourcing of biomarker assays as needed and develop a
plan for internal biomarker capabilities
- Communicate data and strategies effectively to key stakeholders,
including internal team members, senior management, and external
partners
Desired Skills and Experience :
- PhD or equivalent in translational medicine, biology,
pharmacology or related discipline with 8-10+ years of relevant
experience in the biotech/industry and/or academic institutions
- Experience in translating disease biology and the pharmacology of
therapeutic agents into clinical biomarker strategies that address
key questions during clinical development and impact clinical
decision-making across multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to use strong science to guide strategic
direction
- Proven track record for striving for high level of
inter-disciplinary problem solving, innovation and scientific
excellence
- Demonstrated experience managing and leading teams, both directly
and in matrix organizations
- Experience working with CROs for the development, transfer and
deployment of diagnostic assays preferred, including budget
management
- Experience with companion diagnostic/diagnostic development
preferred (CDRH experience a plus, including pre-sub, IDE and/or
PMA interactions)
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with a
demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate
(written and oral) complex biomarker data and its impact on program
and regulatory strategy
