Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services 56723BR Job-Specific Responsibilities Harvard's Financial Administration Department (FAD) is responsible for the stewardship of the University's finances, including related business processes and technology. FAD is dedicated to supporting the teaching and research mission of the University by providing outstanding financial services to the Harvard community; by providing support, guidance, and consultation; by working to ensure compliance with University and federal guidelines; by mitigating risk; and by promoting the financial health of the University.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Institutional Risk and Compliance Officer, the Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services, is responsible for supporting the Institutional Risk Management (IRM) program and administration of the University's anonymous reporting hotline.

Harvard University seeks a collaborative, organized, and strategic individual to be its Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services.

Reporting to the Institutional Risk and Compliance Officer, the person in this position will partner with a team of risk leaders to implement Harvard's Institutional Risk Management (IRM) program which provides a structured process for identifying, assessing, prioritizing and managing risks across various levels of the University. The person in this position will be directly responsible for risk awareness building initiatives including the IRM Symposium, an annual event which brings together hundreds of stakeholders from across Harvard to network with one another and learn from experts and leaders in key risk areas germane to the University.

The Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services will also be responsible for establishing and implementing an organizational framework to coordinate and systematize the University's compliance efforts in order to achieve efficiencies, reduce risk, and encourage the highest ethical standards of conduct. The person in this role will develop and foster close relationships with compliance owners in Harvard's central administration and schools to ensure that legal and regulatory obligations are identified, communicated, tracked, and effectively implemented. The Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services will also administer the University's Anonymous Reporting Hotline including case management and awareness-building activities.

Typical Core Duties:

  • Working with Harvard schools, central administration units, and university-wide affinity groups/committees to conduct risk assessments and develop plans to manage (i.e., treat, transfer, tolerate or terminate) key institutional risks -
  • Maintaining a compliance universe, identifying new and overlooked compliance areas, and conducting compliance assessments using a risk-based approach
  • Planning and executing the annual IRM Symposium in addition to other educational programs and awareness initiatives that promote risk management practices, ethical principles and compliance obligations
  • Staying abreast of current events, applicable laws, regulations, and trends so that the University responds in a timely fashion to changes in the higher education risk and compliance landscape
  • Coordinating the Anonymous Reporting Hotline case management process in collaboration with other university officials in order respond appropriately to reported concerns and issues
  • Performing other related duties as required Basic Qualifications Basic Qualifications are the minimum threshold a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role.
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Minimum of 7 years' experience in a financial, compliance or audit role

      • Juris Doctor preferred
      • Risk management and/or compliance certification a plus
      • Project management experience and skills
      • Experience in a University setting a plus
      • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills Working Conditions Interview and onboarding activity for this position may be conducted via telephone & Zoom video conferencing, based on the department's current presence on campus.

        This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). The fully remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, in-person on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment. FAD is currently developing hybrid workplace models which will actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
