Senior Director, Commercial Alliances - LATAM (Cambridge, MA based) Cambridge, Massachusetts Commercial The Role: Located in Cambridge, MA, The Senior Director, Commercial Alliances LATAM Region is responsible for managing and optimizing the value of Moderna's alliances for vaccines at all commercial stages of the product life cycle. Alliances include partnerships with pharma companies and distributors to support commercialization of Moderna brands and may include partnerships resulting from in and out-licensing of products and technologies. The Senior Director of Commercial Alliances will establish and lead the day-to-day alliance management of multiple Moderna relationships with strategic partners to ensure that key goals for each alliance are achieved and the value for Moderna and its partners is maximized. Here's What You'll Do: Cross-company activities: Work with commercial leadership to identify potential partnership/business opportunities to advance Moderna's commercial strategy. Lead internal initiatives to leverage existing networks and relationships of key Moderna personnel to identify potential commercial partnership opportunities. Perform complex analyses to identify future business opportunities and assess evolving market, R&D/competitive landscape and new technologies to make recommendations on potential business opportunities. Help ensure the completion of and synthesize required medical/market/financial/legal/other assessments to inform all commercial partnership decisions and support communications with key stakeholders Key responsible party for overseeing the governance of the partnership agreement including the participation in governance committees and working group meetings - identify key issues, set meeting agendas, schedule, ensure team is prepared with their deliverables, pre-meeting preparations, etc. Work with partner company to set the direction and scope for implementation of the partnership agreement: key activities, timing and responsibilities on either side Regularly communicate with partner alliance management counterpart and other key partner stakeholders as needed, including ad hoc communications/events that require cross-functional communication Issue management - address hot topic issues that require immediate senior leadership attention while working diligently manage issues and to minimize crisis management situations. Proactively address issues and mitigate risks arising from contractual complications or partner differences. Regularly collect/develop and control quality of forecasts to support financial planning activities Own the governance framework and its execution for all the partnership agreements (distribution, agent, other) Moderna will develop across LATAM Region Work hand in hand with all partners (distributors, agents, CSOs) across the region to develop and align on each partner annual KPIs (regulatory, market access, commercial and medical, financial/business objectives, qualitative) and own these objectives implementation through our respective partners across the various countries in the LATAM Region Perform regular alliance audits, create an environment of continuous improvement: conduct periodic collaboration health checks with stakeholders and implement feedback to optimize alliance value. The candidate will also work a portion of their time on Business Development related transactions and should be able to identify and evaluate potential new business opportunities, provide commercial assessments and drive analytical & quantitative analyses (e.g. forecasting, valuation, transaction & company comparable analyses), and coordinate and participate in due diligence processes; support development and structuring of financial terms for in-licensing and out-licensing transactions, including negotiations. Intra-company coordination and collaboration: Monitor implementation of and adherence to agreed upon late stage development and commercialization plans; take appropriate action to ensure execution Accountable for development of optimal deal structures and financial considerations for proposed business deals. Ensure that all contracts and alliances are negotiated and executed according to plan and in compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. Compliance/contract management - liaise with legal, finance, R&D and Commercial to ensure that key contract stage gates, financial transactions, progress reports, etc. are handled appropriately and also to provide information/updates as needed Conduct regular reviews/meetings with senior management and other functions as appropriate to communicate key issues, achievements, etc. and gather feedback Lead and/or participate in contract renegotiations as appropriate Participate in review of new partner contract negotiations as appropriate and provide input into partnership execution terms of the contract, in particular governance structures and processes Build expertise about partner companies, including company organization/leadership, strategies, financials, priorities, etc. Participate in group meetings to review progress and issues and share standard methodologies. Here's What You'll Bring to the Table: 14+ years' experience with BS/BA, 12+ years with MS/MBA degree, or 10+ years with PharmD/PhD in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry, preferably in commercial, business development, or project leader/project management role. 5+ years' experience in Alliance Management, Commercial Partnerships, Business Development or related function Robust understanding of the regulatory, market access, procurement, budget planning cycle, demand creation, vs ordering pattern process, tender management across various business segment in the X region (government/MOH, institutions, private) Strong business acumen in the LATAM markets: competitive intelligence, key stakeholders' knowledge, financial management, commercial excellence,-- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the main global markets Strong understanding of regulatory, market access and commercialization, including strategic and operational objectives Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and excellent business judgment Ability to identify, prioritize and resolve key project and partnership issues Excellent leadership and communication skills, with proven ability to influence across management levels, functions, and organizations. Comfortable interpreting and managing to collaboration contracts. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and excellent business judgment Self-starter, comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving, high-growth environment. Strong work ethic and sense of humor Attention to detail and excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities Track record of coordinating demands from multiple customers, both internally and with partners. Must be able to handle ambiguity well.
