Job Description:
What's in it for you?. The Associate Director/Director,
Portfolio Analytics and Economic Evaluation, reporting to the Vice
President of Corporate Strategy, will help to define and align the
organization on the overall corporate strategy and goals, with
particular emphasis around supporting and driving pipeline
direction and growth, strategic focus and prioritization and
alignment of long term strategies across the organization. This
position will support identification and assessment of internal and
external opportunities, including rationale, development and
assessment of alternatives and external competitive landscape,
technical and commercial considerations in partnership with key
organization stakeholders, consolidated portfolio analytics and
investment prioritization, and support for key executive decisions
for Acceleron. The key focus of this role is to provide financial
and analytical support and oversight for long term planning for the
entire business, including development and update of the annual
Corporate Strategic Plan, Strategic Business Case and Portfolio
Prioritization Summary, while leading economic project evaluations
and assessment of in/out licensing and acquisition opportunities.
What will you be doing?: Support annual corporate strategic plan
development, including leading workstreams throughout annual cycle
that help support key strategic and operational decisions and
ensuring alignment across key stakeholders while adhering to
timelines. Lead annual processes related to portfolio assessment,
long range planning, management and prioritization for Acceleron
portfolio, including analyzing changes with respect to prior
evaluations, and highlighting option space and potential
consequences. Partner with appropriate functions to acquire data
and incorporate business intelligence to develop, align and present
key assessments to support executive level strategic decisions
across internal portfolio; partner with BD and key stakeholders to
lead assessments and deal structuring of external innovation
partnering opportunities. Manage the consolidation, analysis and
management reporting of long term planning. Ensure data integrity
and provide ad-hoc and standard reports and presentations to
Executive Team. Identify variations from prior strategic plans and
operational planning. Provide information around potential
consequences and recommendations for corrective actions. Maintain
relevant knowledge of external market landscape, pipeline and
competition in core therapeutic areas (pulmonary, cardiovascular,
renal) and support development of internal expertise in potential
new areas. Representation of Corporate Strategy in key operating
committees and act as expert consultant to advise and guide
decisions across organization, ensuring progress and impact. Drive
optimization and continuous improvement of strategic planning
processes, systems and operational excellence in partnership with
ExCo and businesses. Identify and drive development coordination
and implementation of strategic priorities across organization.
What are we looking for?: Bachelors Degree in Business/Finance, MBA
preferred; scientific background is a strong plus. At least 7-10
years of experience in biopharmaceutical industry, with experience
in one or more of the following areas: strategic planning,
corporate development/business development, business analytics,
market research, finance/controlling or management consulting.
Exceptional quantitative and analytical modeling skills, including
Monte-Carlo simulation and technical probability assessment.
Previous experience in leading processes spanning long term
business planning, portfolio analytics and portfolio prioritization
supporting Pharmaceutical R&D pipeline and Business
Unit/Regional Unit P&L analysis, including detailed sales
forecasting, cost analysis and project economic evaluation.
Experience analyzing and developing economic proposals for external
innovation, including licensing and acquisition opportunities.
Ability to think strategically about current portfolio and future
evolution in the context of competition and external trends. Strong
analytical and operational capability, with ability to manage
projects and timelines; effective stakeholder management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication suitable for Executive
Committee audience. Highly collaborative, strong interpersonal
skills and cross-functional team experience; ability to lead and
influence within a matrix. Willingness to travel (domestic,
international) - 10% of the time, in accordance with company

operating initiatives. This position is expected to engage and lead
workstreams that impact all areas of the organization. Workstreams
are typically composed of multiple stakeholders within R&D,
Commercial or Enabling Functions, including cross functional
working teams, executive level leadership and decision committees.

analysis, Corporate Strategy delivers actionable insights to
support discovery, research, development, BD and commercial efforts
