Job Description:

3+ years of IT experience. Bachelor s degree or technical certifications and experience providing user support in an academic environment strongly preferred. Supervisory experience desirable. Ability to multitask and prioritize a wide range of, competing demands from a variety of constituencies, meet deadline, follow through on projects and manage IT staff accordingly. Strong customer service orientation required as well as the ability to work with and convey technical information to non-technical users. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and other confidential information with discretion. Must be proactive and able to initiate tasks and formulate ideas that contribute to the overall efficiency of the Center. Must exercise professionalism and use sound judgment when analyzing and resolving problems. Commitment to keeping current on technological trends. Technical skills: Fluency in Windows and MacOS. Extensive experience deploying and troubleshooting computers, peripherals and software. Ability to perform common hardware repairs and upgrades, e.g., memory replacement, hard drive reformatting, etc. High-level knowledge of networking, email protocols, and Internet protocols. Experience utilizing the following: anti-malware tools, desktop backup utilities, online collaboration tools, and website content management systems. About the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) was founded in 1969 as an interdisciplinary research institution in the social sciences to examine the politics, history, economy and society of Europe, and to bring an understanding of important developments in Europe to an American audience. Areas of oversight include, but are not limited to the following: * Project management: Manages all IT-related projects; assesses technology needs and researches and implements tools to enhance administrative, programmatic and end-user needs. Develops and maintains documentation, plans and leads training programs for end users. * Policy and procedure development and oversight: Develops and enforces policies, procedures and standards for all of the Center s information technology-related operations; ensures compliance with university security procedures, particularly for the appropriate handling of High-Risk Confidential Information (HRCI). * Website management: Oversees the technological aspects of CES website, including both the public-facing, front-end and the back-end calendar and content management system extensively used by CES staff for daily operations. * Staff management: Supervises, provides training and development for, and evaluates the IT Support Associate (Gr. 54) and that position s work, which includes providing end-user support, desktop and A/V support (hardware and software), device configuration, and data management, as well as providing technical support for the Center s website. May hire, train and supervise student/temporary staffing. * Budget and procurement: Manages and expends the Center s IT budget, i.e., purchases all computers and peripheral hardware, cloud-based and other software and A/V equipment. Sets policies and procedures for how resources are used, purchased, supported and refreshed. * Customer service: Ensures an environment of high-touch IT support for resident faculty, staff, graduate students and visiting scholars. Directs and prioritizes responses to support requests. Identifies, troubleshoots, diagnoses technological issues; develops and implements solutions. * Media creation: Oversees the Center s A/V needs and equipment, including presentation and video capture technologies, for four in-house, seminar rooms used for classes, lectures, seminars, conferences, etc. * Collaboration with internal units and external vendors: Acts as the Center s main interlocutor with Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) for issues resolution for e-mail, network, telephone and other HUIT-controlled systems or any user-support issues that cannot be resolved locally. Implements university/FAS technology initiatives that impact the Center s users and technologies. Liaises with FAS Media Technology Services (MTS) and outside vendors to ensure seamless integration of their A/V equipment at CES and in other Harvard spaces as needed. Partners with FAS Office of Physical Resources and Planning and other FAS/Harvard units on IT-related building projects.
