are looking for a Project Engineering - Materials Engineer for our
facility in Cambridge, Ontario. JOB PURPOSE: The Materials
Engineer, working within the BWXT Component Engineering and
Engineering Services - groups, supports the design, fabrication and
maintenance of nuclear pressure vessels including steam -
generators, heat exchangers, and other components. This position
provides technical direction on - materials-related issues
including material selection, review of material test reports,
degradation - assessments and related activities. Reporting to the
Engineering Services Manager, this role has no direct reports but
provides technical leadership to other engineering groups for
material issues. This role entails extensive verbal and written
interactions with other BWXT engineers and technical staff, project
managers and field staff within BWXT and customer organizations.
Requires some work outside of normal business hours (evenings and
weekends) to support emergent issues for the BWXT shop or customer
outages. Occasional travel to vendor and customer sites may also be
required. ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Work with potential material suppliers and the BWXT Project
Engineer to select and specify appropriate materials for nuclear
equipment and services applications.
- Develop technical specifications for procurement of specialty
materials such as nuclear steam - generator tubing.
- Oversee pre-production qualifications for critical materials
for acceptance.
- Provide technical support to the BWXT Life-Cycle Engineering
group for component reliability - assessments and resolution of
as-found conditions at operating nuclear power plants.
- Review and provide feedback on customer Technical
Specifications, and provide technical support for component
proposals.
- Resolve vendor technical non-conformances for material
supply.
- Provide support to develop BWXT shop and Field Services
production processes that affect material integrity of the finished
component.
- Manage the detrimental materials control program for shop
fabrication processes.
- Compliance with department operating procedures and quality
assurance program requirements. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Materials Engineering with 7 to 10 years of
experience in related fields.
- Advanced experience and knowledge of (typically 7 to 10 yrs):
- Steel-making practice (forgings, plate, tubing);
- Operating power plant environments (nuclear preferred);
- Degradation mechanisms related to pressure vessels and heat
exchangers, including tube wear, stress corrosion cracking, FAC,
etc.
- Nuclear pressure vessel equipment design and operation,
including familiarity with the ASME - Pressure Vessel Code (Sec.
III and Sec. VIII).
- Familiarity with power plant water chemistry guidelines, and
EPRI guidelines and publications - related to materials reliability
is an asset.
- Ability to support multiple concurrent projects and meet
deadlines.
- Capable of developing practical, innovative solutions to a
range of technical challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional engineering designation (P. Eng) or eligible to
