business. The Principal Engineer Opto-Mechanical will be a
technical leader on the sustaining engineering team. She/he will
have responsibility for supporting and the continuous improvements
of the reliability of our instrument products. You will have
responsibility for creating design specifications, project
schedules, cost targets, and the activities required to complete
projects. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Identify and execute design improvement projects for
in-production products and in-field retrofits. * Provide input on
next-generation innovations to improve Design-for-Manufacturability
and Quality * Technical ownership of instrument optical subsystems
(e.g. imaging, illumination) * Lead reliability improvement and
cost reduction design efforts with cross-functional teams. *
Maintain 3D CAD models and documentation for operations-requested
changes, including supplier changes, manufacturing improvements,
and end-of-life management. * Mentors and provides technical
guidance to a young, growing team * Execute failure analyses and
mitigation activities, utilizing industry best practices such as
Six Sigma, Lean, and CAPA. * Maintain effective communication with
cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers for changes and
implementation * Create technical documentation to support transfer
to production * Develop and maintain procedures, test fixtures,
specifications, and train manufacturing, service, suppliers, and
other engineers on optics build, alignment, and test processes. *
Develop and execute verification and validation testing at
component through system levels * Find and participate in the
evaluation of new technology, new products, new materials, and
their impact on the business * Investigate product issues in
support of NCRs and ECOs EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: * BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent * 10+ years of
relevant work experience * Significant experience with optical
system design and specification of optomechanical assemblies *
Strong interpersonal, written communications, time management, and
organizational skills. * Experience with robotic system design
including pneumatic actuators and electronic actuation and the
integration of custom and off-the-shelf hardware and electronics *
Proficiency with MS Office, 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred) * Design
for manufacturability across multiple methods (e.g. machining,
castings, sheet metal, injection molding) * System testing and
design verification experience that includes setting up and
conducting tests, data acquisition, and statistical analysis,
