The Broad Institute includes faculty, professional staff, and students from throughout the MIT and Harvard biomedical research communities and beyond, with collaborations spanning more than a hundred private and public institutions in more than 40 countries worldwide. - The Broad Institute was recently named as part of the New England Center of the Pathogen Genomics Centers of Excellence (PGCoE) network created/funded by the CDC, and in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Harvard Medical School. It is intended to foster and improve innovation and technical capacity in pathogen genomics, molecular epidemiology, and bioinformatics to better prevent, control, and respond to microbial threats of public health importance. The New England PGCoE was also named as the Lead PGCoE for Education. Our overarching purpose as the Lead PGCoE for Education is to provide world-class training to prepare the state and local public health workforce for pathogen genomic surveillance and outbreak response . We plan to develop a robust collection of asynchronous and synchronous learning modules and tools for advanced learners to ensure that our public health workforce is prepared as a part of their routine skillset to respond to current and future infectious threats. As part of the center's effort the Broad will partake in three major objectives: (1) assess the gaps and needs in genomic surveillance knowledge, training, and capacity; (2) develop asynchronous and synchronous online training in pathogen genomic surveillance; and (3) support in-person training opportunities on genomics techniques. - We are seeking an Education Lead to help spearhead this work. Key Responsibilities: -

  • Develops scientific educational materials on pathogen genomic surveillance and outbreak response.
  • Supports a comprehensive landscape analysis and regular needs assessments.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in pathogen genomics.
  • Assists in the development of course offerings and certificate programs.
  • Ensures both our efforts are coordinated amongst both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in developing community outreach and education events such as workshops, webinars, and seminars. Critical to the success of the Lead PGCoE for Education will be its recognition by and engagement with the public health workforce. This role will involve deep engagement with the CDC, its relevant partners, and other PGCoEs. - This position will allow for professional advancement, skill development, and strong networking opportunities. Relevant Background :
    • Master's or PhD in genetics, genomics, or related fields highly preferred
    • Relevant experience in infectious diseases and/or educational course development, including wet and dry genetics lab experience
    • High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proven ability to build relationships with collaborators and work collaboratively in a multi-institutional environment
    • Must be able to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing and high-demand environment
    • Ability to think creatively to solve problems and create unique teaching modalities for learners
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
