Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a
nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries
for this role across the country. The actual salary for this
position will be determined by a number of factors, including the
scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education,
training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other
conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation
and benefits program, employees are also eligible for
performance-based cash incentive awards.
Salary Range
$111,600.00 - $184,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers is seeking a collaborative and analytical individual with
underwriting expertise to join the Commercial Surety Home Office
Underwriting team. This dynamic group is responsible for partnering
with our underwriting Field organization to evaluate and manage
complex risks, ensure compliance with company policies and
underwriting guidelines, and support business strategies through
detailed analysis and collaboration with strategic support units.
Commercial Surety provides surety bonds for individuals and
businesses across a wide range of industries, including
manufacturing, public utilities, technology, healthcare, financial
institutions, and retail.
As an Underwriting Manager, Commercial Surety, you possess advanced
underwriting knowledge and will partner with the Field and Home
Office organizations to support and influence the execution of
business unit strategy. By leveraging your expertise to educate
underwriters, lead over-authority reviews, and contribute to the
successful execution of underwriting strategies, you will influence
the overall profitability, growth, and retention of business.
What Will You Do?
Execute underwriting strategies and practices in support of
profitable growth objectives in partnership with the Commercial
Surety Field organization.
Contribute to the profitable growth and retention of a complex book
of business through meticulous risk/financial analysis, contract
reviews, and sound decision making.
Meet with Field partners, key distributors, and customers/insureds
to foster relationships and engage in meaningful dialogue, both in
person and virtually, to support successful business outcomes.
Contribute to collaborative underwriting execution and risk
mitigation through individual risk over-authority reviews as well
as through the evaluation of underwriting integrity.
Support the development of key underwriting capabilities through
coaching and/or trainings while educating underwriters nationwide
on strategy to enhance efficiency and effectiveness for assigned
group.
Assist in monitoring trends, emerging issues, and regional
underwriting results for the Commercial Surety book of business and
partner with underwriting leadership to address findings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to and drive
progress in key projects and assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Bachelor's degree.
Six or more years of underwriting experience with the surety
sector.
Advanced knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, surety
insurance products, and industry trends.
Proficiency in analyzing and synthesizing complex information to
make well-informed underwriting decisions.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
while maintaining high levels of accuracy and efficiency.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to
influence others.
Relevant industry designation(s) or certification(s).
Ability to travel up 25% of the time.
What is a Must Have?
Four years of underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis,
or risk assessment experience.
