Job Description:
Position Description The Department of Global Health and Social
Medicine (GHSM) seeks an experienced senior grants manager to
support the financial infrastructure that advances the goals of the
department. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Grant
Manager will provide administrative and financial support for
research-related activities of the department. This individual will
be accountable for the financial bottom line of an assigned
department portfolio; responsible for compliance and audit issues,
budget submission, reporting, projections, and accurate financial
analysis. Serves as principal source of information on complex
fiscal policies and procedures including federal funding
regulations, and advises faculty and staff on existing options or
alternatives.
Provides daily monitoring of grants and contracts for Principal
Investigators to ensure expenses are paid according to contract and
government regulations within budget limit and timelines, notifies
PI's and supervisor about any funding shortfalls, and plan for
contingencies. Responsible for pre- and post-award management with
a high degree of complexity; manages portfolio which includes
program projects, philanthropic gifts, various domestic and
international subagreements from both federal and non-federal
funding sources, ensures compliance with federal and university
cost principles. Prepares budgets for grant & contract proposals,
renewals, and periodic reports in accordance with NIH policies and
trends.
Reviews and produces financial data providing research and data
analysis to present for use in planning and decision making;
prepares multiple complex and varied financial reports that require
selection, preparation, and interpretation of data; manages
procedures for tracking and reporting, including recommending
remedial measures; oversees processing all payments including
vendors invoices, individual reimbursements, and other accounts
payable and receivables, and researches discrepancies as required;
contributes to other department goals as required. Interpret and
administer university guidelines and sponsored research
regulations; provide guidance to faculty about department,
university, and sponsored policies.
The ideal candidate has experience with complex NIH and other
sponsored grant applications such as a program project grant; is
self-directed, can prioritize duties, and meet multiple deadlines.
Need to be able to use a high degree of judgment; and need to be
able to make sound independent decisions. High level of attention
to detail and ability to multitask is required. Strong written and
oral communication skills essential. Need to be able to work
independently with minimal supervision, and handle complex and
confidential information with discretion.
The Senior Grants Manager will work effectively within a culture

capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals. Basic
Qualifications5+ years of experience, with 3+ years of those years
in pre- and post-award management experience (both federal and
non-federal), required; a combination of education and experience
may be considered.Additional Qualifications and SkillsBachelor's
Degree preferred. Knowledge of A-21 and Uniform Guidance
regulations strongly preferred. Strong skills and experience
designing and developing budgets with Microsoft Excel required.
Additional InformationThis position is based in Boston and some
in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work
is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which
Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY,
RI, and VT). Individual flexible and remote work options for this
