Job Description:

The Associate Director/Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will report to the Executive Director of FP&A and will serve as the finance business partner to the CMC, Regulatory & Quality, and G&A organizations. To be successful in this role, you will have deep experience supporting CMC, including a solid understanding of manufacturing life-cycles and interdependencies, complex supply chains, and third party manufacturers (CMOs). Understanding of Regulatory and Quality activities will also be beneficial. Experience in pharma/biotech is critical. This role will be a critical Finance partner to one of the largest groups in the organization, CMC, as we expand our product portfolio, expand our supply chain, begin early-stage planning for commercialization. In this role you will get exposure to the C-suite, supporting several of the executive team members and their direct reports. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proficiency in building relationships at all levels of the organization and understand how to tailor information and presentations to their target audience. The ability to succinctly communicate quantitative information, extract insights from complex and sometime ambiguous data, simplify financial concepts for non-experts, and "tell a story" will be very important in this role. Additionally, this individual will support budget owners through enhancing visibility, ownership, and accountability of their budgets through thoughtful engagement and respectful challenging.A successful candidate will navigate independently and seamlessly through a variety of tasks (both strategic and operational) and effectively manage changing priorities in a fast-paced, nimble organization. This individual should have a growth oriented mindset and be willing to learn and add capacity when needed for other functions. As Mersana grows and looks to transition to a commercial organization, opportunities within FP&A to support other areas of the business (e.g. Development, Commercial) may present themselves.How do you know if you're the right fit?Your experience will enable you to perform the following tasks in a detailed and deadline-oriented manner:

  • Lead Strategic and operational business planning for CMC, Reg/QA, and G&A
  • Build strong collaborative relationships and support budget accountability and financial discipline with business partners
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate budgets and forecasts and assist in development of quarterly board materials
  • Collaboratively work with accounting group to ensure proper expense recognition and overall compliance with internal controls (direct support of quarterly audits) and support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Provide regular actual to budget/forecast reporting and variance analyses to business partners to enable decision making and alignment to achieving company objectives
  • Lead the quarterly financial review for respective functions including providing insightful budget vs actual and period over period commentary to highlight risks and opportunities in the future
  • Work with CMC team leads to ensure consistency in planning assumptions across stages of the manufacturing cycle and alignment with program timelines and goals
  • Finance lead on contracting actions with key CMC vendors (e.g. CMOs) including review and analysis of budgets, change orders, and supporting the development of executive and board level endorsements of large contacts
  • Support broader organization through ad hoc projects and analysis and provide insightful analytics to highlight risks and opportunitiesThe other stuffThis is typically a role best suited for individuals with a BS in Finance or Accounting who possess at least 10 years' experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in a financial planning & analysis role. You should also have the following experience/knowledge:
    • Ability to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment
    • Impeccable communication skills and strong attention to detail
    • Sophisticated user of MS Excel and PowerPoint. You have a favorite excel function and can convincingly explain why it is superior to the excel function favored by others!
    • Experience with financial planning tools Oracle, PBCS and Adaptive
    • Excellent interpersonal/communication/customer service skills
    • Demonstrated ability to organize work to meet deadlines
